GSU Professor Dr. Patrick McMunn passes National Counselor Exam in Charleston, WV

Last week, Dr. Patrick McMunn, professor of psychology courses ranging from General Psychology to specialized topics such as Human Sexuality, Family and Couples Psychology, and Multicultural Psychology, took the National Counselor Exam in Charleston, WV, scoring 117/200. Forty of the items were research questions for future tests, with 160 of the items actually scored. The minimum passing score was 93/160 items.

Dr. McMunn鈥檚 degree, background, and WV state license is geared to the practice of psychological systems. 鈥淚n addition to pursuing a psychologist license, I chose to also pursue a license in professional counseling (LPC) to bring a much-need resource for our students at GSU,鈥 McMunn said.  鈥淎s an LPC, I will have the ability to supervise students who plan to go through the Master of Counseling Psychology program, which we plan to offer Fall 2025. Although passing the NCE doesn鈥檛 immediately guarantee licensure, it is a major step and achievement towards obtaining a license to practice and supervise.鈥

Coming to West Virginia from his hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patrick McMunn is an accomplished therapist, educator, and military veteran with over a decade of experience in mental health counseling and higher education. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Walden University. Dr. McMunn has served as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at 麻豆精品视频 since 2021. Dr. McMunn combines his passion for teaching and service to foster student-centered learning while contributing to the field of psychology. Dr. McMunn served in the United States Air Force, where he held leadership roles in mission operations, recruitment, and training. He is dedicated to advancing the understanding and practice of psychology through his teaching, research, and service to both 麻豆精品视频 and greater West Virginia communities.
